TGE is a consulting firm specializing in geotechnical engineering. Our services include subsurface exploration services using a combination of test borings, test pits and hand sampling techniques; geotechnical engineering design recommendations, and laboratory analyses. In addition, field inspection services are also available, such as bearing grade, proofrolling observation and approval, and caisson and pile installation inspection.
Subsurface Exploration
TGE utilizes qualified subcontractors to perform test borings and test pit excavations under our direction. We also perform coring of existing pavement and floor slabs. Sample classification is routinely performed by TGE’s engineers. Subsurface logs and/or core summaries are then prepared.
Geotechnical Engineering
TGE provides recommendations for foundation types(including shallow foundations, caissons, driven piles and helical piers), allowable bearing pressures, settlements, slab-on-grade, lateral earth pressure and pavement design parameters, retaining wall structures, reinforced earth structures and embankments, and seismic design parameters. The latter is particularly important as recent Building Code revisions have placed more emphasis on seismic design.
Laboratory and Field Analyses
Laboratory analyses are generally performed in support of geotechnical engineering evaluations of a project site. TGE has in-house capabilities to perform the following soil indices tests:
Additional laboratory testing such as unconfined compressive strength of soil and rock samples, triaxial shear strength, 1-dimensional consolidation and sulfate and chloride content are also available.
Field Inspection Services
Field inspection services provided by TGE (typically in support of geotechnical engineering recommendations) include observation and approval of bearing grades, observation and approval of proofrolling for slab-on-grade and pavement subgrades, and installation of driven pile or drilled pier (caisson) foundations. Additional field testing services such as soil in-place density tests or concrete testing can be provided through subcontractors, under our supervision, if requested.
